You will probably file a claim for compensation if you were injured at work and feel it was the fault of your employer. Anyone who wants to file a claim for an accident at work has up to three years from that date to do so. If you wait this long you will need to be represented by a lawyer. If you belong to a union then you will most likely be using the legal services that are offered by that union. To cover a successful claim, your employer must be, by law, insured. At your place of work you have probably seen the name of your employer’s insurance company posted in the break room. If you have not see this notice, then you must be freely given all the details that you ask for.
First, make sure your accident was recorded in the accident book. You might also want to ask if your boss reported it to the HSE. Then look at your employment contract to see about accident or sick pay and if you do not agree it, then try to come to terms with your employer. If you find safety or health concerns in your work place, bring them to the attention of your boss and ask for those concerns to be taken care of. If this is not happening, then you can call the info line to the HSE.
